Leak in Spent Fuel Pit CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 Reactor Power 95%

DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

During an inspection of the Spent Fuel Pit, a small leak (- 1.9 gal-lons per hour) was discovered at tell tale drain number 6.

The Spent Fuel Pit level has been maintained in accordance with the Technical Specifications (T.S. 3.9.11) since the occurrence.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

The cause of the leak was leaking welded seams.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Various non-destructive examinations were utilized to determine the cause of the leakage.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Half-round channels were welded over the leaking welds in the Spent Fuel Pit wall.

The average leakage from June 24, 1980 through August 16, 1980 was about 26 ml/hour.

At present, there is no further action planned.
