Mr. Eric Larson, Vice President

Entergy Operations, Inc.

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station

P.O. Box 756

Port Gibson, MS 39150

SUBJECT: GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1, RESPONSE TO NOTICE OF

VIOLATION AND NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION RADIATION

PROTECTION INSPECTION REPORT 05000416/2017012

Dear Mr. Larson:

Thank you for your reply to the Notice of Violation (NOV) letter, dated September 21, 2017, in

response to the NOV sent to you on August 22, 2017, concerning the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory

Commission (NRC) Radiation Protection Inspection Report 05000416/2017012.

We have reviewed your reply and find we need clarification on your response. As discussed

during a telephone call on October 24, 2017, between Messrs. John ODonnell, NRC Health

Physicist, and David Ellis, Grand Gulf Senior Licensing Specialist and Acting Manager,

Regulatory Assurance, we noticed some discrepancies in your response. Examples of these

discrepancies are the date the issue was initially identified by the NRC, the identification of

which decades of response the instruments were tested on using traceable/calibrated source

material, and the referenced industry standards.

In our discussion of our concerns with your staff, a commitment was made to clarify the

response to the NOV. We look forward to receiving your clarifications and/or corrections.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice and Procedure," a copy

of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public

E. Larson 2

Document Room or from the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access Management System

(ADAMS), accessible from the NRCs website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

The NRC also includes significant enforcement actions on its website at

https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/enforcement/actions/.

Sincerely,

/RA/
