UPDATED SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. ME7493)

Dear Mr. Mulligan:

By letter dated October 28, 2011, Entergy Operations, Inc., submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 54 Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, to renew the operating license NPF-29 for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS), for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff. The staff determined that the license renewal application (LRA) was complete and acceptable for docketing on December 27, 2011.

Since that time, the staff has reviewed the GGNS LRA, performed site audits and inspections, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicants responses to the staffs RAIs, and developed a safety evaluation report (SER) with open items (ML13032A194) dated January 31, 2013. The staff has closed all open items, developed the final SER (ML16090A252) dated March 31, 2016, and subsequently met with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee and Full Committee on May 4, 2016, and October 6, 2016, respectively. The Final SER has been revised to incorporate Entergy, ACRS, and additional staff comments, in the enclosed Final SER (ML16288A185) issued in October 2016.
