BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2 AND 3: ISSUANCE OF AMENDMENTS REGARDING DELETION OF REFERENCES TO THE ASME CODE SECTION XI AND INCORPORATION OF REFERENCES TO THE ASME OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE CODE, AND EXTENSION OF SURVEILLANCE INTERVALS TO ACCEL

Dear Ms. Appleyard,

We are very close to issuing amendments to the Brown Ferry Units 1, 2, and 3, licenses. This is in response to the Tennessee Valley Authority (licensee)s application dated August 28, 2012.

The amendments allow the licensee to delete the references to Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code (ASME Code) and add references to the ASME Code Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants to Section 5.5.6, Inservice Testing Program, to the BFN Units 1, 2, and 3 Technical Specifications. The amendment also allows the licensee application of a 25-percent extension of surveillance interval using the Surveillance Requirement 3.0.2 provisions to all normal frequencies and those specified as 2 years or less in the Inservice Test program.

Please let us know if you have any comments on behalf of the State of Alabama for the above amendments.
