October 16, 2006 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-1 1 and NPF-1 8 NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374

SUBJECT:

Proposed Third Ten-Year Interval Inservice Testing Program The purpose of this letter is to inform the NRC that Exelon Generation Company, LLC (EGC) intends to synchronize the Ten-Year In-Service Inspection intervals between LaSalle County Station (LSCS) Units 1 and 2 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, "Codes and standards,"

paragraph (f), "Inservice testing requirements."

The LSCS Unit 1 second IST Interval is scheduled to end on October 11, 2006. The LSCS Unit 2 second IST Interval will end on May 07, 2007.

To effect the synchronization and alignment between the Unit 1 and Unit 2 IST intervals, the following shall be implemented based on the provisions of ASME Code Section Xl paragraph IWA-2430 "Inspection Intervals". In accordance with "Program B" of sub-paragraph IWA-2430(d), each inspection interval may be reduced or extended up to one year, however, adjustments shall not cause successive intervals to be altered by more than one year from the original pattern of intervals.

These changes will assure that the IST Program implemented on both Units 1 and 2 use the same Code Edition and Addenda for the next and successive intervals and will therefore establish common implementing procedures for both units. The common code of record for the third interval IST program will be the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) OM Code 2001 Edition through 2003 Addenda.

The current end date of the Unit 1 IST interval reflects a 690 day extension allowed by IWA-2430(e) for a Unit 1 forced outage Li F35. The current end date of the Unit 2 IST interval reflects a 932 day extension allowed by IWA-2430(e) for a Unit 2 refueling outage L2R07.

ASME Code Section XI paragraph IWA-2430(d) allows applying the IST extension to the interval in addition to extending the IST interval due to a power unit that is out of service for greater than 6 months.

October 16, 2006 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 As a result of these extensions of the current IST intervals as shown in the table below, the new date to start both LSCS Unit 1 and Unit 2 IST Third Ten-Year Interval will be October 11, 2007.

The extensions are all within the required maximum of one year in accordance with IWA-2430(d).

Unit No. Inclusive Dates Time Extended Unit 1 October 11, 2006 to October 11, 2007 1 year Unit 2 Mav 07. 2007 to October 11. 2007 < 1 year Since the provisions of ASME Code Section Xl paragraph IWA-2430(d) are met, a relief request in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, "Codes and standards," paragraph (a)(3)(i) is not required and therefore this letter is provided for information only.
