SUMMARY
OF OCTOBER 18, 2005, MEETING TO PROVIDE DESIGN OVERVIEW OF THE DIGITAL REACTOR PROTECTIVE SYSTEM AND ENGINEERED SAFEGUARDS PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (TAC NOS. MC5895, MC5896, AND MC5897)
On October 18, 2005, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) met with Duke Energy Corporation (the licensee). The licensee provided a design overview of the proposed digital Reactor Protective System (RPS) and Engineered Safeguards Actuation System (ESPS). A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 is the slides presented during the meeting.
The licensee focused its presentation on the two issues on which the NRC has expressed concern: the use of interchannel connections and the combining of RPS and ESPS, The licensee requested that the NRC provide its position on these two issues by November 1, 2005.
The licensee and the NRC agreed to have another meeting in the near future if the NRC needs more information to reach its position on these two issues.
Please direct any inquiries to me at 301-415-1419, or LNO@nrc.gov.
