Dear Mr. Singer:
This refers to the meeting conducted at our mutual request at the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) Region II Office in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 20, 2005. The meeting purpose was to discuss the Browns Ferry Unit 1 Restart Project Status. Discussions during this management meeting were lead by both representatives of the TVA and the NRC and included the following topics: accomplished work activities to date, schedules for future milestones, responses to challenges, and understanding activities important to NRC oversight and inspections regarding Unit 1. Enclosure 1 contains a list of NRC, TVA, and other attendees. contains the presentation handouts used by your staff and the NRC to discuss the status of the Browns Ferry Unit 1 Restart Project. Enclosure 3 contains the NRC Browns Ferry Unit 1 Recovery Issues List which represents the NRCs current understanding of the issues requiring NRC review prior to restart of Unit. The meeting was informative and a beneficial exchange of information. Although it did not result in specific action items or decisions, both sides gained a better understanding of near term priorities.
These periodic meetings will continue throughout the recovery process.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
