SUMMARY
OF VISIT TO ROBINSON SITE IN SUPPORT OF THE STAFFS REVIEW OF THE H.B. ROBINSON, UNIT 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MB5226)
On June 24, 2003, members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the environmental review team from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) toured the environs of H.B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2. The main purposes of the tour were to (1) familiarize a new member of the environmental review team, the hydrology reviewer, with the site, and (2) allow the cultural resources reviewer to take a closer look at sites of cultural interest identified by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. We examined the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) flow monitoring stations on Black Creek above and below Lake Robinson, the cooling water intake structure and discharge canal, the dam on Lake Robinson, the drainage area above Lake Robinson, and the grounds at three sites of potential cultural resource interest: the visitors center, a location near the plant in the transmission line right-of-way, and a location near the plant along Highway 151. A copy of an internal CP&L electronic message (England to Kozyra) providing information about discharge permits was given to the hydrology reviewer during the tour (Enclosure 1). A copy of the Carolina Power and Light Company Reservoir Operation Procedure for Lake Robinson was also given to the hydrology reviewer (Enclosure 2). The members of the NRC/PNNL group attending the tour were:
NRC PNNL Richard Emch Mary Ann Parkhurst Alicia Williamson Dan Tano Shelly Cole Lance Vail
/RA/
Richard L. Emch, Jr., Senior Project Manager Environmental Section License Renewal & Environmental Impacts Program Division of Regulatory Improvement Programs Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket No.: 50-261
