NRC NAMES NEW CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jesse L.

Funches as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Funches was most recently the Deputy Controller in the NRC Office of the Controller.

As the CFO, Mr. Funches will be responsible for agency-wide financial planning, policy, operations, and systems and will serve with the Executive Director for Operations and the Chief Information Officer on the Executive Council. The Executive Council was established as part of recent management restructuring, to provide a comprehensive agency-wide foundation for accomplishing NRC's mission.

Mr. Funches began his NRC career in 1978, as an Assistant to Chairman/Commissioner John Ahearne. He then held a number of progressively responsible positions in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation involving policy development, budget execution, resource analysis, and administrative support. In 1987, he was selected as the Director of Program Management in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards. Before joining NRC, Mr. Funches was an operations research analyst at the Department of Defense, where he worked on defense force planning, programs and resources.

Mr. Funches has received two Senior Executive Service Presidential Meritorious Rank Awards and the NRC Distinguished Service Award. He graduated from Jackson State University in 1969 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics, earned an M.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1970, and received an M.B.A. degree from Loyola College in 1990. His new position becomes effective on April 7.
