50-410 Pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e)(iv),

on November 22, 1978 Mr. L. Narrow of your staff was informed by telephone that Stone 6 Webster and Niagara Mohawk are evaluating a number of weld indications on sleeves cadwelded to the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 containment liner knuckle plate.

These new indications were found on the same cadweld sleeves previously reported to you on June 21, 1978.

Ultrasonic investigation of previously-reported indications revealed a lack of penetration and proper fusion.

Forty-three welds were evaluated in accordance with the requirements of ASME TII Section NE5000.

Thirty-five were determined to be. unacceptable.

As discussed with Mr. Narrow, this information, updates that previously reported.

A report will be provided by December 22, 1978 discussing the investigation'esults.
