L'. Eng, of this office on March 18 through May 8, 1989, of activities at the. Zion Nuclear Generating Station, authorized.by License Nos._DPR-39
<and DPR-48, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. T. Joyce at the conclusion'of the inspection.
LThe enclosed copy of'our inspection report identifies areas examined during
'the inspection. Within these areas, the_ inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with~ personnel.
No. violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
This report highlights;a number of shortcomings identified in the maintenance area, including work package preparation, documentation of work activities, and repetitive. equipment failures.
In addition, there also appears to be an increase in the' number of forced outages in 1989 caused by equipment failures.
Your corporate Code of Conduct of Maintenance (CCOM) appears to address these-and other related areas, but current estimates for implementation of CCOM-
~
indicate that full implementation is about 2 years away.
Please respond to-the findings in the maintenance section.of this inspection report and include in your response the.long and short term sctions which will improve work
. package preparation and documentation, and preventive maintenance and-describe any other plans to reduce repetitive equipment failures and forced outages.
