This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. Murphy of this office on May 16-19, 1972, of activities authorized by AEC Construction Fermit Nos.

I CPPR-33 and 34, and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. Murphy with Mr. Smith and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during tl..s inspection included a review of the procedures to be used in the repair of the Unit 1 steam generators, a review of the Unit 1 operating logs and document control and a review of the nondestruc-tive test records for the Unit 2 main steam piping. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with plant personnel and observations by the inspector.

Within the scope of the inspection, no items of noncompliance were observed.

Concerning our review of the Babcock and Wilcox Construction Company's (B&W) procedures for the repair of the reactor coolant system components, it is our understanding that B&W will develop a procedure for the control of small parts and tools used in the repair of the steam generators. It is also our understanding that members of your staff vill audit the B&W quality assurance program for repair and modification of the reactor coolant syatem componenta.

Regarding the review of the plant operating records, our inspector discussed with your site staff, areas in which the shift supervisor's log could be improved. It is ouz understanding that the requirements for this log vill x

be revised as a result of this discussion. It is also our understanding

that the procedure for the work order system vill be revised to provide that r quirements for retesting be indicated on the work order.

Concen '.ng our review of the records for the main steam piping, our in-

spector determined ' hat the velding isometric drawings were not controlled

by the Oconee drawing control procedure.

It is our understanding that the document control procedure vill be extended to cover these drawings.
