Telephone call from G. Jacobson, Plant Results Engineer, to RO:III on October 12, 1972.
B.
Description of Particular Event or Circumstance:
During a routine surveillance testing of the standby liquid control pumps on October 11, 1972, the No. 12 pump failed to develop the re-quired system head of 1275 psig on one of two tries. On October 12, 1972, the same pump f ailed on one out of 4 tests.
In both cases the discharge pressure was 900 psig.
The licensee suspects that one of the piston's check valves maybe hanging up causir.g the loss in dis-

charge pressure.

Action by Licensee:
Ihe licensee has declared the pump inoperable and is getting ready to disassemble it.
Pump No. 11 has been tested satisfactoril; as required by Technical Specification paragraph 4.4.B.
The licensee plans to report the matter to Licensing within 30 days.
