Inspection 50-219/79-18 This refers to your letter dated March 17, 1980, in response to our letter ~
dated February 20, 1980.
Thank you for informing us of the corrective and preventive actions documented in your letter.
These actions will be examined during a subsequent inspectioi of your licensed program.
Based upon your responses to the items of noncompliance cited, and discussions held with you and your staff during the management meeting conducted on April 29, 1980, in the NRC Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, the following items of noncompliance, or parts thereof, are being withdrawn for'
the reasons' stated.
Item B.1; Adequate compensatory measures had been taken by your staff to
--
protect public health and safety in the event of a fire hazard.
However, the item of non' compliance still stands (at the Deficiency level) since the citation also includes a violation of your procedure relative to wooden crates and boxes, which were not fire retardant, in a safety related area (fuel storage area).
Although you had identified this situation, your action to correct the situation was not initiated promptly.
Item B.2; System modifications were on going, with final inspection by
--
your staff either in progress or not yet started but scheduled.
With respect to Item B.6 of your response, we understand, based on discussions during the April 29, 1980 management meeting, that the September 1, 1981 date indicated was a typographical error.. The correct date is September 1, 1980.

With respect to Attachment A and Attachment B of your response relative to the radiation protection program, and as discussed in the April 29, 1980 meeting,

we understand that a qualified individual has been assigned full' time as acting Supervisor of Radioactive Waste Operation pending selection of a

permanent individual anc that a training / retraining progra.T. for radiation
' protection technicians is in develoc.Tsant and will be fully estaclished and _
