5-23-2002 | On 04/27/02 at 2023 hours0.0234 days <br />0.562 hours <br />0.00334 weeks <br />7.697515e-4 months <br />, the Shift Security Supervisor with the approval of the Operations Shift Supervisor directed Security Force Members to seek cover due to a tornado sighting/warning in Callaway County. Outside patrols and Opreations Gate officers were directed to seek cover in alternate facilities. Security vehicles were arranged to prevent site access prior to leaving posts.
Protected Area posts and controls were moved into safe buildings with their contingency gear. The fall back defensive strategy was maintained. No required compensatory posts were closed as a result of this event. At 2037, the danger was no longer present and operations were returned to normal.

A. REPORTABLE EVENT CLASSIFICATION
This Event is reportable under 10 CFR 73.71(a)(4) reporting of safeguards events.
B. PLANT OPERATING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO THE EVENT
Callaway Plant was in Mode 1 at 100 percent power.
C. STATUS OF STRUCTURES, SYSTEMS OR COMPONENTS THAT WERE INOPERABLE AT THE START
OF THE EVENT AND THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE EVENT

Selected outside patrols and posts were temporarily suspended. The actions taken due to the inclement weather reduced the effectiveness of measures implemented to comply with the Order for Interim Safeguards and Security Compensatory Measures issued 2/25/02.
III.2CAUSE OF THE EVENT The cause of the event was a Tornado sighting/warning for Callaway County.

No corrective actions are necessary for this event.
