U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission December 15, 2016 Page 2 In References 1 and 2, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (EGC) requested two separate amendments to Facility Operating License (FOL) No. NPF-62 for Clinton Power Station (CPS),

Unit 1.

In Reference 3, EGC notified the NRC that it had decided to cease operations at CPS, Unit 1 by June 1, 2017. Given this notification, in Reference 4, EGC requested that the NRC temporarily suspend its review of the two license amendment requests (LARs), pending EGC evaluation of the continued need for the LARs. In Reference 5, the NRC notified EGC that the review of the two LARs had been suspended.

On December 1, 2016, the Illinois General Assembly passed the Future Energy Jobs Bill (SB-2814) and the Illinois Governor signed the Bill on December 7, 2016. Because of this, EGC has reversed its decision to permanently cease power operations at CPS. In Reference 6, EGC notified the NRC of the formal withdrawal of the "Certification of Permanent Cessation of Power Operations" that was submitted as Reference 3.

Given the decision to continue power operations at CPS, EGC requests resumption of NRC review of the two LARs that were submitted in Reference 1 and Reference 2.

EGC is notifying the State of Illinois of this response by transmitting a copy of this letter to the designated State Official.

There are no regulatory commitments contained in this letter. Should you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact Mr. John L. Schrage at (630) 657-2821.
