SUBJECT:

CLINTON POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 1 -ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SUSPENSION REQUEST FOR LICENSING ACTIONS (CAC NOS. MF7290 AND MF7559)

Dear Mr. Hanson:

By letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated August 11, 2016 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16224A262), Exelon Generation Company, LLC (the licensee, Exelon) submitted a request to suspend the ongoing licensing reviews for two amendment requests for the Clinton Power Station (CSP), Unit No. 1. The letter indicates that suspending the review is intended to provide Exelon the opportunity to make a determination whether to withdraw the requests given the likelihood that the unit will cease operations next June. This is due to the June 20, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16172A137), notification by Exelon of its intent to cease permanent operations at CPS on June 1, 2017.

The NRC staff has reviewed your request, and effective on the date of this letter, has suspended further efforts on the January 25 and April 4, 2016 (ADAMS Accession Nos.

ML16025A182 and ML16095A285, respectively), submittals. It is requested that within 45 days Exelon notify the NRC staff of its intent regarding these submittals. After 45 days from the date of this letter, the NRC staff will resume the review of both submittals. Should there be any outstanding issues, which have not been addressed by that time, the NRC will consider denial of that submittal consistent with Section 2.108 of Title 10 to the Code of Federal Regulation.

Docket No. 50-461 cc: Distribution via Listserv Sincerely,
