Chris Allen The TEAMS call began at approximately 1:00 P.M. NRC staff stated that they were seeking clarification on HDI's statement in their exemption application that there are no environmental impacts associated with the alternative to the proposed action (i.e., denying the exemption request). During the ensuing discussion, HDI explained that, when preparing the exemption request, they had focused on the safety benefits of approving the exemption (i.e., storage in a passive cask system versus storage in a fuel pool) and being fiscally responsible with the Decommissioning Trust Fund, but they had forgotten to include the fact that denying the exemption would require the fuel pool cleaning system to be maintained longer than if the exemption was approved. Consequently, additional low level waste in the form of contaminated ion exchange resins would be generated and would require subsequent disposal. The call concluded at approximately 1:15 P.M.
