TOL EDISON COMPANY DAVIS-BESSE NULor.AR POWER STATION UNIT ONE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR LER NP-33-7f-71 DATE OF EVENT: June 9, 1979 .

FACILITY: Davis-Besse Unit 1 IDENTFFICATION OF OCCURRENCE: Failure of the IBM System 7 Security / Fire / Radiation Computer Con gtfons Prior to Occurrence: The unit was in Mode 5, with Pouer (WT) = 0, and Load (Gross MWE) = 0.

Description of Occurrence: On June 9, 1979, at approximately 0805 hours0.00932 days <br />0.224 hours <br />0.00133 weeks <br />3.063025e-4 months <br />, the LBM System 7 Contact Data Logger failed, thus rendering the fire and radiation renote monitoring inoperable. This placed tne unit in the Action Statement of Technical Specification 3.3.3.8, which requires an hourly fire patrol be established.

The Shift Foreman declared the System 7 Computer inoperable, notified station security to furnish guards, and established a fire patrol to check all fire detection cabinets hourly.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence: The cause of the failure is an internit-tent equipment problem which has not yet been determined by the station personnel in-volved or by the IBM service representative.

Analysis of Occurrence: There was no danger to the health and saf ety of the public or to station personnel. A fire patrol was establi;hed and guards posted on vital doors.

Corrective Action: On June 9, 1979 at approximately 0816 hours0.00944 days <br />0.227 hours <br />0.00135 weeks <br />3.10488e-4 months <br />. the computer program was reloaded. The system was placed back in operation, removing the unit from the Action Statenent of Technical Specification 3.3.3.8. Work is continuing on phasing out tne System 7 security computer per Facility Change Request 7o-Oo3. Tne System 7 computer is expected to be completely phased out by the end of 1979.

Failure Data: This is a repetitive occurrence. There have been four previously reported f ailures of the System 7 computer; see Licensee Event Reports NP-33-79-11, NP-33-79-30, NP-33-79-46, and NP-33-7P-5S.
