Dear Mr. Castell,

The purpose of this email is to acknowledge that Carolina Power and Light Company, now doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc. (PGE), expects to submit by October 8, 2010, the results of PGE's additional head loss testing related to Generic Letter 2004-02 (GL 2004-02), "Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation during Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized-Water Reactors."

In PGE's March 30, 2010, response to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff's request for additional information related to GL 2004-02, PGE stated that it expected to submit the results of the additional head loss testing by September 30, 2010. In a recent conversation between you and myself, you requested additional time on behalf of PGE to prepare the test results for submittal and to allow for more management review. You also stated that you expect to have the submittal completed by October 8, 2010. Submitting the information by October 8, 2010, instead of September 30, 2010, will have a minimal impact on the agency's review and is therefore acceptable.
