McGuire Relief Request acceptance review results; McGuire Unit 1 RR, later Edition Addenda ASME Code,Section XI, 50.55a(g)(4)(iv)

Chet, By letter dated July 1, 2021, Duke Energy Progress, LLC submitted a relief request for McGuire Nuclear Station (McGuire), Unit 1. The purpose of this e-mail is to provide the results of the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs acceptance review of this relief request. The acceptance review was performed to determine if there is sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review. The acceptance review is also intended to identify whether the application has any readily apparent information insufficiencies in its characterization of the regulatory requirements or the licensing basis of the plant.

Pursuant to Sections 50.55a(g)(4)(iv),of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR),

the applicant shall demonstrate that Inservice examination of components and system pressure tests may meet the requirements set forth in subsequent editions and addenda that are incorporated by reference in paragraph (a) of this section, subject to the conditions listed in paragraph (b) of this section, and subject to Commission approval. Portions of editions or addenda may be used, provided that all related requirements of the respective editions or addenda are met.

Based on the information provided in your submittal, the NRC staff has estimated that this licensing request will take approximately 75 hours8.680556e-4 days <br />0.0208 hours <br />1.240079e-4 weeks <br />2.85375e-5 months <br /> to complete. The NRC staff expects to complete this review in approximately 6 months, which is December 1, 2021. If there are emergent complexities or challenges in our review that would cause changes to the initial forecasted completion date or significant changes in the forecasted hours, the reasons for the changes, along with the new estimates, will be communicated during the routine interactions with the assigned project manager.

These estimates are based on the NRC staffs initial review of the application and they could change, due to several factors including requests for additional information, and unanticipated addition of scope to the review. Additional delay may occur if the submittal is provided to the NRC in advance or in parallel with industry program initiatives or pilot applications.
