UT issues - Phone Call Ken Battige brought a concem to my attention regarding the UT 'near field' effects. Specifically in mirroring a comment made by someone (I can't remember who) during our intamal planning discussions last week, the structural-lid weld examination technique, using a 10Mhz,0.5 in.

diameter transducer, would produce a near field effect of - 2.69". The depth of the weld volume examined is well within that range. Therefore we ask "Can an examination well within the near-field be valid?" We need to discuss this potential inspection issue and decide if we need to discuss it with the Owners Group before our site visit. I propose a call at 1:00 pm on Tuesday March 3. Please reply as to the acceptability of this time. We will call you. In addition, if there are any other issues that concem you please be ready to discuss them.
