Responses from Steve Doctor on UT Questions Question 1:

Temperature effects on the ultrasonic examination. The owners have declared a maximum temperature 150F during the examination. What effects would this have on the UT/ transducers /couplant (right now a water drip)/ete?

Steve's Response:

The velocity of ultrasound is affected by temperature, so corrections must be made. However, this is a low temperature and should lead to only minor corrections. In addition, this low temperature will not cause water to boil or depole  ;

piezoelectric. Some compatible materials must be selected to minimize any changes but I do not see this as much of a problem.

Question 2:

Limitation on transducers > 5 MHZ per NUREG/CR 5965 (1994), p. S1.57 Steve's Response: '

I talked with Rob Harris on this limitation. It was a result of the analog to digital converter only operating at 32 MHZ. I would expect that this has been upgraded because the technology is moving rapidly and it would enhance the capabilities of the P-scan system. But this definitely needs to be checked. The impact is that this would have the effect of lowering the signal to noise ratio and this would not be acceptable.

Ken:

Swain Distribution, the US distributor for the P-Scan system in Searcy, AR,is sending me technical info on the P-Scan. I am waiting for a call back about frequency capabilities.
