January 30, 1984 NOTE T0: R. Browning FROM: John G. Davis

SUBJECT:

MEETING WITH DOE " BLUE RIBBON" COMMITTEE Bunting and I had an " introductory meeting" with Diarmuid O'Scannlain, Chairman of the DOE Blue Ribbon Committee on January 23, 1984. Bunting attended, as an observer, the first meeting of the Committee on January 24-25, 1984. A memorandum to the Chairman (copies to Commissioners) should be prepared for these two meetings.

Bunting informs me that the Committee appears to very wide ranging in its interests but seems to be focusing on cost control. NRC has been asked to make a presentation (with representatives who can speak to policy) on February 21-22, 1984 I believe this presentation to be of first importance.

I suggest you develop an outline early for the presentation and that we meet '

promptly, by February 6,1984, to discuss it. You should recognize that some on the Committee have little knowledge of NRC hence it will be necessary for the presentation to begin with the basics.

I have attached a very general listing of subjects that should be included.

JoNi . Davis
