3 MEMORANDUM FOR: E. L. Jordan, Deputy Director - Division of Resident and Regional Reactor Inspection FROM: James G. Keppler, Director - Region III

SUBJECT:

PIPING INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS (A/I H07002116)

In your memorandum dated August 29, 1980, you requested the region to select a cooperative licensee to participate in an effort involving computerized interference elimination on piping analyses. Since early September, we have been discussing this matter with a number of licensees in Region III, with the same result from each namely, the requirements that have been established since Three Mile Island have created a workload such that manpower is just not available to provide the necessary input. to this request.

This matter was discussed with Mr. Woodruff of your staff, by Mr. Heishman .

of my staff, and it was agreed that we would not pursue this matter further.

I would be happy to discuss this matter with you further, if you so desire, ma 1.-D/ ^ -
