Dear. Mr. Denton:
The Northrop Corporation has decided to decommission its TRIGA research reactor. Accordingly, a decommissioning plan and an environmental report are herewith submitted for your approval.
The reactor was shut down December 21, 1984 and all fuel rods have been removed from the core and placed in temporary storage.
Our plan is to keep them there until defueling and shipping operations begin on or about April 1,1985.
Because we no longer have a critical assembly, we respeufully request relief from those requirements derived from the technical specifications relevant to an operating reactor. All other requirements, particularly those relevant to the packaging and shipping of fuel, will be faithfully met.
