Thanks for forwarding this message. I was getting concerned and was planning on sending messages to those I know in northwest region of NMFS about this issue today. But their website (http://www.nwr.noaa.gov/)

hasn't been working since Monday, and I've been stymied trying to get phone numbers.

What I would like to know the following:

One -- Would Mr. Bambrick or his staff would like to join us at the site audit? The letter he received opened that opportunity. I feel we need to talk with Mr. Bambrick or his staff to determine how extensive he would like to have our assessment cover. One of the advantages of attending the site audit is that they can see how extensive the thermal plume is in the Columbia River (or not so much), the type of chemicals that could be discharged, the location of the intake and discharge structures, and the vicinity of the closest salmon redd substrate. That would allow us to discuss what they would like to see in the BA and EFH assessment.

Two -- Would we address both the BA and EFH assessment to Mr. Bambrick's office? Or are these assessments handled out of different offices within the northwest region?

I would be to call Mr. Bambrick too.

Request for species and EFH list for Columbia Generating Station Mr. Doyle, I'm in receipt of of Bo Pham's May 3 letter to acting NMFS Regional Administrator Barry Thom requesting a list of species and EFH potentially affected by the subject license renewal. Generally, we don't provide such lists, but rather refer agencies to our website where that information can be gleaned:

However, to assist you in your efforts to prepare for ESA consultation, be advised that as the contemplated action affects Columbia River flows and potentially adds contaminants to the Columbia River, the NRC should assess the potential effects of the continued operation of the plant to all Columbia River salmon and steelhead species (including the Snake River species) as these species spend portions of their fresh water life histories in the Columbia River downstream of the water intakes for the subject nuclear plant. In addition, the Columbia River in the plant vicinity is classified as Essential Fish Habitat for Chinook salmon and the lower Columbia River is designated EFH for both Chinook salmon and coho salmon.
