COMMISSION TO MEET WITH STAKEHOLDERS JULY 17 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with several invited stakeholders Friday, July 17, to discuss concerns about the NRCs regulatory program.

The meeting, which will be open to the public, will begin at 9:30 a.m. It will be held in the meeting room of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (Room 2B3) of the NRC headquarters Two White Flint North building, 11545 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md. NRCs headquarters complex is near the White Flint station on the Washington Metro Red Line at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Marinelli Road.

The meeting has been scheduled to address stakeholder concerns and issues with respect to the agencys processes and approach. Accordingly, the Commission has asked those invited to comment on the nuclear reactor and spent fuel programs, specifically concerning inspection and enforcement, use of performance indicators and performance assessment, risk informed regulations and regulatory policies, and timeliness of NRC processes.

The Commission is interested in conducting a comprehensive dialogue with the invitees on these topics during the session, which will be in a round-table format. Those who will be taking part have been asked to provide examples to illustrate their particular concerns and to propose solutions.

Among those participating, in addition to the three Commissioners, will be:

ÿ Erle Nye, chairman and chief executive officer of Texas Utilities and chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute;

ÿ Joe F. Colvin, president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute;

ÿ Corbin A. McNeill Jr., president and chief executive officer of PECO Energy Co. and a director of the Nuclear Energy Institute;

ÿ Zack T. Pate, chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators.

ÿ Harold B. Ray, executive vice president, Southern California Edison Co.

ÿ David A. Lochbaum, nuclear safety engineer, Union of Concerned Scientists.

ÿ Dr. Forrest J. Remick, former NRC Commissioner and former associate vice president for research and professor of nuclear engineering, The Pennsylvania State University.

ÿ L. Joseph Callan, Executive Director for Operations, NRC.

ÿ Sam Collins, Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, NRC.

ÿ Karen Cyr, General Counsel, NRC.
