CONFIRMATION OF INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS -

DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION

Dear Mr. Boles:

We have received your corporate letters L-16-220 dated July 20, 2016, and L16-370 dated January 9, 2017, in response to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regulatory Issue Summary 2016-09, Preparation and Scheduling of Operator Licensing Examinations. In the letters, you requested initial operator licensing examinations be scheduled in February 2020 and December 2021. Additionally, you requested that the initial license exam scheduled for December 2017 be rescheduled for February 2018. In response, we have scheduled initial license exams for the weeks of:

• February 5 and 12, 2018, with an onsite validation scheduled for January 8, 2018;

• February 3 and 10, 2020, with an onsite validation scheduled for January 6, 2020; and

• December 6 and 13, 2021, with an onsite validation scheduled for the week of November 1, 2021.

Previously, the NRC informed you that we would write your initial license exam scheduled for December 2017. Due to resource constraints, the NRC has decided it can not support writing your December 2017 exam.

In the unlikely event that we are unable to support the examination during the scheduled weeks, we will inform you immediately, upon discovery, of such conditions and make arrangements to administer the examination at a mutually acceptable date.

We understand that your staff will develop the examinations unless we determine it is necessary for the NRC to develop an examination in which case, we will notify you immediately upon discovery of that need. Because your letter indicated that there were more than nine applicants being considered for each of these examinations, the examinations were each scheduled for two weeks. Please inform us if the number of candidates change for any examination as this will impact the examination schedule. Also, please inform us at your earliest opportunity if you discover you need to change the scheduled dates for the examinations.

B. Boles A supplementary letter will be sent to the training department approximately 210 days prior to the examination informing the training manager of the chief examiners name. The letter will also outline examination security expectations, list the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, reconfirm the examination date, and reconfirm the number of candidates you have in the Training Program.

This letter will be made available for public inspection and copying at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html and at the NRC Public Document Room in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding.
