UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555*0001 May 14, 2013 Mr. George H. Gellrich, Vice President Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, LLC Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant 1650 Calvert Cliffs Parkway Lusby, MD 20657-4702

SUBJECT:

CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 APPROVAL OF NUCLEAR SECURITY SAFEGUARDS INFORMATION ROOM

Dear Mr. Gellrich:

By letter dated May 29,2012 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML12151A262), Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, LLC requested the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) approval of a modified Security Safeguards Information (SGI)

Room located in the Nuclear Security Facility (NSF), on the second floor, for Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 (Calvert Cliffs).

The NRC staff has reviewed your policies and procedures concerning the proposed storage of SGI. In addition, the NRC staff has performed an inspection of 1) the physical construction of the NSF, 2} its supplemental security measures, and 3} the planned implementation of the security procedures for the protection of SGI set forth in Calvert Cliffs Security Standard SS-80, SGI Program, Revision 5 (SS-80). Based on this review, the NSF Safeguards Room is another repository which, in the judgment of the NRC, provides physical protection comparable to a General Services Administration approved security container and, therefore, meets the requirements for the storage of SGI set forth in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 73.22(c)(2).

This determination is subject, in part, to implementation of the security procedures for the protection of SGI set forth in SS-80. Failure to implement these procedures will cause the NRC to reassess this determination.
