RE: Summary Comments on Yankee Rowe OOL-12 & OOL-14 Final Status Survey Reports John/Tom, It was just brought to my attention that there was a typographical error in Section 5.1.4 of the FSSR for OOL-14. The report, and the quote from the report included in the response provided to you earlier this morning, erroneously reference OOL-14-04, instead of OOL-14-01.

The attached response has been revised to acknowledge this error.Alice Carson----- Original Message -----From: Alice Carson [1]

RE: Summary Comments on Yankee Rowe OOL-12 & OOL-14 Final Status Survey Reports John/Tom, Attached are responses to the questions/comments on OOL-12 and OOL-14, which were previously provided to Yankee via email on 12/20/06.

If you have any questions, please give me a call.Alice Carson OOL-12 Observations/Comments:

FSS Report Appendix A -Final Status Survey Planning Worksheets

-indicates that after a boundary modification, two bias samples that had been taken were considered to be outside the survey unit. This information is different from the information in Section 5.4 -Survey Results -which indicates that two samples (OOL-12-021

& OOL-12-022) were taken as bias samples & are not listed in the results table. This situation could confuse some readers. Please clarify OOL-14 Observations/comments:

No information on gamma survey/scan results were provided in Section 5.4 -Survey Results or in Section 6.0 -Conclusions.

OOL-1 4-01 is a class 3 soil area, and the Yankee Rowe LTP, Rev. 1, specifies judgmental gamma surveys/scans.

It appears that some judgmental surveys were made, but the results are not given. Please address.CC: "'Greg Babineau'" <Babineau

OOL-12 Observations/Comments:

NRC Comment: FSS Report Appendix A -Final Status Survey Planning Worksheets

-indicates that after a boundary modification, two bias samples that had been taken were considered to be outside the survey unit. This information is different from the information in Section 5.4 -Survey Results -which indicates that two samples (OOL- 12-021 & OOL-12-022) were taken as bias samples & are not listed in the results table. This situation could confuse some readers. Please clarify Yankee Response:

Two (2) samples, OOL-12-021 and OOL-12-022, were originally taken as biased samples for the subject survey unit; however, they subsequently fell outside the survey unit, after a survey unit boundary modification and, therefore, were omittedfrom the table. The last sentence of the first paragraph in Section 5.4 should read: "Samples OOL-12-021 and OOL-12-022 were originally collected as biased samples for OOL-12;however, after a boundary modification of the Unit, the samples were found to lie outside of the survey unit, and therefore they are omitted from inclusion in OOL-12." OOL-14 Observations/Comments:

NRC Comment: No information on gamma survey/scan results were provided in Section 5.4 -Survey Results or in Section 6.0 -Conclusions.

OOL-14-01 is a class 3 soil area, and the Yankee Rowe LTP, Rev. 1, specifies judgmental gamma surveys/scans.

It appears that some judgmental surveys were made, but the results are not given. Please address.Yankee Response:

Judgmental scans were performed in the Survey Unit. The results are addressed in Section 5.1.4: "OOL-14-O1 was scanned approximately 10% with a SPA-3.No activity greater than background or DCGLw, attributable to plant radionuclides, was present in OOL-14-[01]. " In subsequent reports Yankee addressed results of the SPA-3 scans in Section 5.4 of the report.
