Jason and Dwi, By letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated March 7, 2021, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21067A000), Exelon Generation Company, LLC (EGC, the licensee) submitted a Relief Request I4R-12 Relief from Code Surface Examinations for 2B33-F060B Valve Repair for the LaSalle County Station, Unit No.2. , Specifically, I4R-12 requests authorization of alternative requirements for the repair of the valve in accordance with ASME Section XI, paragraph IWA-4000.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff currently reviewing your submittals. The NRC staff has identified areas where additional information is needed to complete its review. The Draft Request For Additional Information (RAI) is provided below.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BY THE OFFICE OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION FOR PROPOSED ALTERNATIVE NUMBER I4R-12 ALTERNATIVE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR REPAIR OF REACTOR RECIRCULATION FLOW CONTROL VALVE EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC LASALLE COUNTY STATION, UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-374 By letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated March 8, 2021, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21067A000 Exelon Generation Company, LLC (the licensee) proposed an alternative to certain requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code),Section III and Section XI, related to the repair of degraded Reactor Recirculation Flow Control Valve B at LaSalle County Station, Unit 2 (LaSalle Unit 2). The licensee submitted Relief Request No. I4R-12, for the proposed alternative Enhanced Visual testing (EVT) examination requirements in lieu of the required Penetrant Testing (PT) for the repairs.

The NRC has determined that the following additional information is necessary to complete its review and make a regulatory decision.

RAI-1: What acceptance criteria will be used to evaluate any possible flaws found during the EVT examinations?

RAI-2: What is the expected thickness of the repaired material beyond the required minimum wall thickness when the repairs are completed?

RAI-3: ASME Code Section III Paragraph NB-2539.4 requires that repair cavities greater than the lesser of 3/8 of an inch or 10 percent of the section thickness require a radiography examination. Will the radiographic examination be used to confirm the results of the EVT examination?
