Thanks.Slide 7: Environmental Issues of Continued Operation This slide lists the environmental issues NRC staff reviewed for Hope Creek Generating Station and Salem Nuclear Generating Station during the proposed license renewal period.Overall, the direct and indirect impact from license renewal on all of these issues were found to be SMALL, which means there were some noticeable impacts, but not enough to cause any permanent alteration to the ecology or environment.

Slide 8: Cumulative Impacts As part of its NEPA review, the staff also looked at the potential cumulative impacts associated with Salem &Hope Creek. These impacts include the effects on the environment from other past, present, and reasonably foreseeable future human actions. It's important to note that these impacts may not even be related to the relicensing of Salem & Hope Creek. Nevertheless, the intent of NEPA is that an agency be cognizant of and ready to be able to disclose ALL the environmental impacts activities within the proximity of its action.This slide provides a summary of our findings with respect to cumulative impacts. Overall, the one reasonably foreseeable action in the near future is the potential for PSEG to proceed with its request to construct additional reactors on the site, which as you can see, expands the range of potential impact for Socioeconomics, Aquatic Resources, and Terrestrial resources.

We did note in the SEIS, however, that the specific impacts of that future activity is also being reviewed and captured in a separate environmental impact statement by the NRC. Our staff has been working closely with the Office of New Reactors to make we coordinate and capture the relevant information within scope.Slide 9: Alternatives

[change last bullet to say "No Action Alternative"l A major step in determining whether license renewal is reasonable or not is comparing the likely impacts of license renewal with the alternatives including other methods of power generation and not renewing the HCGS and Salem operating licenses.In the draft environmental impact statement, NRC staff considered supercritical coal-fired generation, natural gas combined-cycle generation, new nuclear generation and, as part of the combination alternative, conservation/efficiency, natural gas combined-cycle generation, and solar power.Finally, as required by NEPA, the NRC staff also considered the case of the No Action Alternative, which equates to no license renewal of Salem and Hope Creek at the end of their licenses.The staff found that impacts from energy alternatives would vary widely based on the characteristics of the alternatives.

In most cases, construction of new facilities created significant impacts. Overall, NRC staff concludes that continued operation of the existing HCGS and Salem is the environmentally-preferred alternative.
