National Marine Fisheries Service, Northeast Region Protected Resources Division Attention: Section 7 Coordinator 55 Great Republic Drive Gloucester, MA 01930 Phone: (978) 281-9328 FAX: (978) 281-9394 Posterior portion of carapace severely crushing, which revealed internal organs

3 Salem SGS Incidental Take Report - Sea Turtle Dorsal view of a deceased, Kemps ridley sea turtle, collected from Salem CWIS intake on 08-13-2024 by Salem Yard crew personnel. Specimen was in a state of advanced decomposition, and evidence of damage was observed to posterior portion of the carapace (08/13/2024).

A ventral view of the specimen, showing the condition of the plastron. Discoloration of the skin and foul odor indicated an advanced stage of decomposition (08/13/2024).

4 Salem SGS Incidental Take Report - Sea Turtle The existence of distinct pores, near the margins of the inframarginal scutes, were observed on both sides of the plastron, confirming the identity of the specimen as a Kemps ridley sea turtle.

Pores on the right inframarginal scutes are identified by the red circles in the above photo (08/13/2024).
