DOCKET NO. 50-171 UNIT Vermont Yankee DATE 800708 COMPLETED BY F.J. Burger TELEPHONE 802-257,7711 X137 REPORT MONTH June, 1980

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES Highlights Vermont Yankee operated at 84.35% of rated thermal power for the month.

Gross electrical generation was 318,668 MWH

 • or 81.95% design electrical capacity.

Operating Summary The following is a chronological description of plant operations including other pertinent items of interest for the month:

6/1/80 At the beginning of the reporting period the plant was at 99.1%

of rated thermal power.

6/11/80 At 1200 hrs. a power reduction was initiated to investigate leakage into the costeinment. This was followed by a shutdown l to repair a leak in a feedwater check valve. The turbine i was tripped at 1710 hours0.0198 days
0.475 hours
0.00283 weeks
6.50655e-4 months
.

6/13/80 At 1110 hrs. a start-up was initiated. The turbine was phased l

onto the grid at 2043 hrs.

6/15/80 At 0927 hrs. "B" Recirculation Pump tripped causing a power reduction. The pump was restarted and a power ascension initiated.

6/17/80 At 1401 hrs. the reactor scrammed due to a turbine trip caused by a high water level in a moisture seperator drain tank. The problem was resolved (see attached Shutdown & Power Reductions Sheet) and a plant startup initiated. The turbine was phased onto the grid at 2231 hrs.

6/30/80 At the end of the reporting period the plant was a 99.5% of rated thermal power.
