Diesel Driven Fire Pump Out of Serv:ee Greater Than 7 Days The Vermont Yankee Technical Requirements Manual (TRM) Section 3.13.B.2 states that:

'"From and after the date that less than the above required equipment is operable, restore the component to operable status within 7 days or submit a report within the next 30 days to the commission as specified in TRM 6.7.C.2.f outlining the plans and procedures to be used u>

provide for the loss of redundancy in this system."

On June 15,1999, during routine full flow discharge testing, the diesel driven fire pump failed to achieve rated flow of 2500 gallons per minute (GPM) at i 15 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure. At the time of the test the pump produced 2501 GPM at 113 PSI. The pump was declared inoperable but considered functionally available. Corrective maintenance was performed to reset the pump lift setting and the pump successfully passed the full flow discharge test on June 29,1999. At that time the pump was declared operable. This event has been entered into the VY Event Report process. Additional corrective actions may be generated afler further investigation.

This letter is submitted to satisfy the special report requirement of our TRM for the loss of fire pump redundancy due to one pump 1.eing inoperable for greater than 7 days. The diesel driven fire pump was inoperable for a total of 14 days. The redundant electric fire pump wes operable during this time.

We trust that you will find this submittal satisfactory. Ilowever, should you desire additional information, please feel free to contact us.
