"At approximately 0947 EDT on October 28th, 2013, two deceased sturgeons were removed from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeons were confirmed by a site biological expert to be Atlantic sturgeons, which are 'endangered' species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as 'endangered' species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a.
"Environmental Licensing has examined the deceased Atlantic sturgeons and at 1015 EDT has contacted the National Marine Fisheries. Environmental Licensing also contacted NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife at 1030 EDT."
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notified R1DO (Krohn) and endangered species group via email.
