The NJ Marine Mammal Stranding Center did not take possession of the specimen for potential necropsy. The specimen has been held for study pending direction from NOAA/NMFS. This incidental take is authorized under Biological Opinion NER-2010-6581.

Incident Report Sea Turtle Take - PSEG Salem Generating Station Photographs should be taken and the following information should be collected from all turtles and sturgeon (alive and dead) found in association with Salem. Please submit all turtle necropsy results (including sex and stomach contents) to NMFS upon receipt.

Marine Mammal Stranding Center was contacted but no one could be reached at the time, so a follow-up phone call was made at 08:40AM on 9/14/22 and the details of the collection provided to a receptionist.

Fate of animal (circle one): dead alive Condition of animal (include comments on injuries, whether the turtle is healthy or emaciated, general behavior while at Salem. During routine inspections, Salem Yard Crew personnel retrieved a deceased Kemps ridley sea turtle from Salem circulator intake. Salem Unit Control and PSEG Nuclear Environmental Affairs personnel were notified.

After contacting PSEG Nuclear Environmental Affairs (NEA) personnel, Environmental Consulting Services Inc.

(ECSI) personnel verified species identification and began processing of the specimen. At the direction of PSEG NEA, the deceased specimen was transported back to the ECSI office, and placed in refrigeration, awaiting further direction on final disposition from NMFS.

APPENDIX B, continued (Incident Report of Sea Turtle Take)

Draw wounds, abnormalities, tag locations on diagram and briefly describe below.

Description of animal:

At the time of collection, the specimen was deceased, but no external damage was observed during processing indicating a possible cause of death. Specimen was exhibiting the early stages of decomposition, indicated by a foul odor as well as by distinct swelling of the eyes, neck, and skin on the hind flippers.

Based on this evidence, it is likely the specimen perished at some point prior to its observation and subsequent collection at the facility. External tags were not observed, and an internal PIT tag was not indicated.
