IIDescriptionofTestThePostAccidentSamplingSystememployson-lineinstrumentationtomonitorpH,boron,entrainedoxygen,entrainedhydrogen,andtotaldissolvedgasutilizinglevelandpressuretransmitters.Eachoftheseinstrumentsaretobetestedforapplicabilityinaradiationand'chemistryenvironmentsimulatingthatwhichisanticipatedunderpost-accidentoperation.Theobjectiveistodetermineiftheradiationfieldwouldinterferewiththeinstrumentelectronicsresultingininaccuraciesbeyondthoseconsideredacceptableforpostaccidentsampling.Thetestwillrequiresubjectingeachoftheinstrumentslistedabovetothedesignvalueradiationfield.Datawillberecordedtodocumenttheinstrumentaccuracyforpostaccidentchemistryrangesunderboththeirradiatedandunirradiatedcondition.Thetestwillbesplitintothreephases'ithonlytwoinstrumentsbeingtestedatatime.TheboronmeterandpHprobewillbetestedtogetherinonephase.AmultimeterwillbeusedtomeasuretheoutputoftheboronmeterwhilethepHwillbereadoutonaBeckmanpHanalyzer.Thesamplesolutionusedinthisphasewillbedemineralizedwaterwithapproximately2000ppmofboricacid.witha4toIradioofhydratedtrisodiumphosphate(Na3P0412H20).Asmallpumpwillbeusedtorecirculatethesamplesolutionthroughtheinstruments.IndependentpHreadingswillbetakenperiodicallytoverifytheBeckmananalyzer.The02andH2Analyerswillbetestedtogetherinthesecondphaseofthetesting.BottledgaswithknownconcentrationsofH2and02willbeusedasthetestmediuminthisphase.Writtenverificationbythegassupplierdes'cribingtheactualgascontentwillbesuppliedpriortothestartofthetest.Thethirdphasewilltestthepressureandleveltransmitters.Astaticpressurewillbeappliedtoeachtransmitterforthedurationoftheradiationtesting.Pressuresof2.5psiand60psiarerequired.Thetransmittersvoltageoutputwillbemeasuredbymulti~eters.Page4 Theradiationfieldwillbe'identicalforallthreetestsandwillbeconductedoveratwodaytimeperiod.Onthefirstdayoftesting,theinstrumentswillbeplacedinaradiationfieldof10,000rad/hrforthefirst1/2hour.Theradiationfieldwillthenbeincreasedto50,000rad/hrforthenext2hoursandthenincreasedto100,000rad/hrforthenext6hoursforatotalintegrateddoseof7x10rads.Thistestingwillbecontinuouswithnointerruption.Ontheseconddayoftesting,theradiationfieldwillbeincreasedto200,000RAD/hrandtheinstrumentexposedfor24hours,foratotalintegrateddoseof5.5x10rads.TheRadiationfieldwillbegeneratedbyCobalt60sourcesandthefieldvaluecertifiedbythetestfacility.Duringtheradiationtest,theinstrumentsoutputwillbereadandrecordedonthefollowingschedule:RadiationfieldDurationTimeBetweenReadings10,000rad50,000rad100,000rad200,000rad1/2hr2hrs6hrs24hrs15minutes15minutes30minutes60minutes(forfirst8hrs.only)ThedesignbasisforpostaccidentradiationexposuretothePostAccidentSamplingSysteminstrumentationis7x105rads.Asstated,thisvaluewillbeachievedduringthefirstdayoftesting.Continuedexposureduringthetestto5.5x106radsorinstrumentfailureisintendedtoidentifythelevelofinstrumentmargin.Page5
