Overview Attributes of the Fire Protection Team Inspection (FPTI) are redundant to attributes of other NRC inspections.

Low numbers of FPTI findings indicates strong industry performance.

Proposal:

  • Incorporate unique FPTI inspection criteria to Comprehensive Engineering Team Inspection (CETI) and credit other Inspection Procedures (IPs), as applicable

Focus Areas SECY-99-140 provided initial stated benefits for Fire Protection Inspections.

  • All initial benefits have been realized.

Initial inspections identified additional focus areas to be addressed (e.g., fire barrier ratings, multiple spurious operations, etc.).

  • IP revisions and/or Temporary Instructions proven effective at enforcing resolution of emergent items.
  • Emergent items have been resolved.

Current FPTI focuses on Design Basis, Operating Experience, and Modifications
