| | In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, "Codes and Standards," paragraph (f)(4)(iv) and the guidance provided in Reference 1, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) requests NRC approval to use portions of a later edition and addenda of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code) for the Edwin I.Hatch Nuclear Plant -Unit 1 and Unit 2 (HNP) Inservice Testing (IST) Program.Specifically, SNC requests approval to use ASME OM Code 2004 Edition,"Inservice Testing of Pressure Relief Devices in Light-Water Reactor Nuclear Power Plants" as part of the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant -Unit 1 and Unit 2 IST Program for testing of Class 1 Safety Relief Valves with Auxiliary Actuating Devices. The 2004 Edition of the ASME OM Code was incorporated by Reference 2 into 10 CFR 50.55a(b)(3), with no new modifications or limitations. |

Table 1 (attached) evaluates the sections that changed between the ASME OM Code 2004 Edition, Mandatory Appendix I and the ASME OM Code 2001 Edition through 2003 Addenda, Mandatory Appendix I for applicability and impact to the Class 1 Safety Relief Valves with Auxiliary Actuating Devices Inservice Testing Program.The use of the later edition and addenda of the ASME OM Code is requested for the remainder of the fourth 10-year IST interval, which began January 1 st, 2006 and is scheduled to end on December 3 1 st, 2015.-AWU4 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission NL-10-1021 Page 2 The NRC has recently approved similar requests to adopt later editions of the ASME OM Code for IST Programs. |
