I am responding to your submittal of September 16, 2002, which requested the U.S. NuclearRegulatory Commission (NRC) approve a route for transporting spent nuclear fuel (SNF) fromthe University of Michigan's Ford Nuclear Reactor in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the U.S.
I am responding to your submittal of September 16, 2002, which requested the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approve a route for transporting spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from the University of Michigan's Ford Nuclear Reactor in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the U.S.
Department of Energy's Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina (NRC Route No. 196).The NRC has reviewed your submittal and concluded that the information satisfies therequirements of 10 CFR 73.37. Specific details of Route No. 196 are enclosed [Enclosure 1].Specific details of Route No. 196 combined with additional Safeguards Information are also enclosed [Enclosure 2]. Enclosure 2 will not be released to the public and you should protect itin accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 73.21. Approval of Route No. 196 will expiretwo years from the date of this letter. The NRC issued Interim Compensatory Measures (ICMs) for the transportation of SNF onOctober 3, 2002, for licensees who ship greater than 100 grams of SNF. I am responding to your submittal of September 16, 2002, which requested the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approve a route for transporting spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from the University of Michigan's Ford Nuclear Reactor in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the U.S.
