SUBJECT:

YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION - APPROVAL OF FINAL STATUS SURVEY REPORTS OOL-12, OOL-14, NOL-06, NOL-03, OOL-11, OOL-18, AND OOL-10

Dear Mr. van Noordennen:

By letters dated October 19, 2006, October 23, 2006, October 31, 2006, November 3, 2006, November 3, 2006, November 13, 2006, and November 13, 2006, Yankee Atomic Electric Company (YAEC) submitted final status survey reports (FSSRs) for the following survey units:

OOL-12 A class 1 open land area in the northeast portion of the industrial area which was an access area to the former radiologically controlled area, included a rail spur used for transportation of radioactive waste, and contained several plant systems.

OOL-14 A class 3 land area at the northeast perimeter of the industrial area not owned by the licensee and primarily heavily wooded.

NOL-06 A class 1 open land area within the former radiologically controlled area on the west and southwest sides of where the reactor and vapor container was located.

Portions of the reactor support structure ring and mat foundations were present in, but not part of, this survey unit.

NOL-03 A class 1 open land area within the former radiologically controlled area where a portion of the old PCA storage building used to be located.

OOL-11 A class 2 open land area on the east side of the former radiologically controlled area.

OOL-18 A class 2 open land area southwest of the site that was not used during plant operation but was used for temporary storage of roll-off containers during decommissioning.

OOL-10 Class 1 and 2 open land areas that surround the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation and form the south and west perimeter of the former industrial structures footprint.

By e-mails dated December 7, 2006, and December 20, 2006, the staff forwarded requests for additional information on the subject FSSRs to YAEC. YAEC responded by e-mails dated December 12, 2006, and December 27, 2006.

G. van Noordennen Based on our review of the submitted FSSRs and the licensees responses to NRC comments on the FSSRs, we have determined that the subject FSSRs are consistent with the previously approved License Termination Plan and are therefore acceptable.
