The following was received via email:
"At approximately 0853 EDT on April 03, 2014, a live sturgeon was removed from the Salem Unit 2 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be an Atlantic sturgeon which is an 'endangered' species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as 'endangered' species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a.
"At approximately 0910 EDT, the sturgeon was released back into the Delaware River following identification. A report was made to the National Marine Fisheries at 0913 and the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife at 0916 EDT, concerning the Atlantic sturgeon by Environmental Licensing."
The NRC Resident Inspector, local government, and the State of New Jersey will be notified.
