SUMMARY

OF AGENCY PERFORMANCE AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION FOR 2010 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its report, NRC Summary of Performance and Financial Information, Fiscal Year 2010. The report summarizes the agencys performance in carrying out its mission to protect people and the environment through the regulation of nuclear power and use of nuclear material. It provides key financial and performance information for Congress and the American people to assess how well the agency has carried out its mission.

In FY 2010, the NRC provided effective and efficient oversight of 104 nuclear power plants across the country. The agency emphasized strengthening the interrelationships among safety, security and emergency preparedness. Demonstrating the agencys commitment to increasing transparency and openness, the agency developed an Open Government Plan and website at http://www.nrc.gov/public-involve/open.html. This laid the groundwork for moving the agency forward in the use of social media to strengthen communication with the public. The agency also upgraded and improved its online document management system (ADAMS) that makes it easy for the public to quickly find official agency documents.

The NRC continued to focus on the safe and secure use of nuclear materials through effective oversight of operating nuclear fuel processing facilities, uranium recovery sites, decommissioning sites and nuclear material user licensees. The agency reviewed new applications for enrichment facilities and uranium recovery, to ensure that public health, safety and the environment continue to be protected.

The NRC Summary of Performance and Financial Information, Fiscal Year 2010 Report (NUREG-1542, Volume 16, Supplement 1), also called the Citizens Report, is available at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/staff/sr1542/v16/s1/.
