In your March 26, 2012, e-mail, you stated that the reasons for your request for extension were teaching load, work load, and staffing shortage and that you are unable to meet the previously set goals for responding to the remaining 58 RAIs for relicensing. You also stated that you will receive very limited assistance from Argonne National Laboratory.

We have reviewed and approved your extension request for the following reasons: 1) some of the remaining 58 RAIs are complex questions requiring technical analysis; 2) Purdue University has demonstrated progress by completing the first 42 RAI responses in accordance with previous commitments; 3) Purdue University has maintained good communication with the license renewal project manager regarding the status of your RAI response efforts; 4) You stated that you will provide biweekly status updates to the project manager of your progress; and 5) You have committed to submitting responses batchwise as follows:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received your email dated March 26, 2012, (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No.

ML120900571). In your e-mail you requested an extension of time, until January 31, 2013, to respond to NRCs Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) dated July 14, 2011, (ADAMS Accession No. ML103400250) and July 8, 2011, (ADAMS Accession No. ML111890201). The NRC is also in receipt of your email dated Friday, May 11, 2012, (ADAMS Accession No.

For the 16 week period beginning May 21, 2012, and ending August 24, 2012, you will submit five responses every two weeks. For the 24 week period beginning August 27, 2012, and ending January 25, 2013, you will submit two responses every two weeks. For the last six days leading up to the deadline of January 31, 2013, you will submit the last response. You will inform the NRC in advance of a failed submission date and submit the late responses with the next batch due.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Section 50.30(b), you must execute your responses in a signed original document under oath or affirmation. Your responses must be submitted in accordance with 10 CFR 50.4, Written Communications.

Information included in your response that is considered security, sensitive, or proprietary, that

J. Jenkins you seek to have withheld from the public, must be marked in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding.
