Reference:

NRC Letter to Exelon, Oyster Creek Nuclear GeneratingStation - NRC Integrated Inspection Report 05000219/2014005 and PreliminaryWhite Finding,dated February 11, 2015.

The referenced letter identified an apparent violation that is being considered for escalated enforcement action related to an NRC inspection performed at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station involving the fan shaft failure of the Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG)

No. 2. The letter allows for a response to the apparent violation in writing prior to the NRC making its enforcement decision. Exelon Generation Company, LLC accepts the apparent violation of low to moderate safety significance (White) and agrees that the failure is not indicative of current station performance since the deficiency occurred in 2005. Lastly, subsequent failure analysis concluded that an additional apparent cause involving an undetected manufacturing defect that was not identifiable by station personnel may have contributed to the shaft failure.
