No: IV-15-008 April 1, 2015 CONTACT: Victor Dricks (817) 200-1128 Lara Uselding (817) 200-1519 NRC Will Hold an Open House on River Bend Nuclear Plant Performance The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold an open house April 14 to discuss the agencys assessment of the River Bend nuclear power plants 2014 safety performance. The plant is located in St. Francisville, La.

During the open house is scheduled for 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Meeting Room of the St.

Francisville Town Hall, 11936 Ferdinand St., in St. Francisville. Attendees will have an opportunity to hold one-on-one discussions with NRC staff members about the plants 2014 performance and the agencys oversight of the facility. NRC staff on hand will include the inspectors assigned to the plant on a full-time basis, and staff from the Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.

The assessment letter sent from the NRC to plant officials addresses the performance of the plant during 2014 and will serve as the basis for the discussion.

Overall, the River Bend plant operated safely during 2014, but will receive additional oversight as a result of a security violation. The NRC will also conduct an additional inspection because the plant had two unplanned shutdowns during the fourth quarter of 2014, exceeding a performance threshold.

The NRC continually reviews the performance of River Bend and the nations other commercial nuclear power plants, NRC Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas said. Meetings like this provide members of the public with an opportunity to speak directly with the NRC staff who help ensure the plants safety on a day-to-day basis.

Inspections are performed by two NRC Resident Inspectors assigned to the plant and by specialist inspectors from the Region IV office in Arlington, Texas, and the agencys headquarters in Rockville, Md.
