Victor Dricks (817) 200-1128 Lara Uselding (817) 200-1519 August 28, 2012 E-Mail: OPA4.Resource@nrc.gov NRC ENTERS MONITORING MODE IN ADVANCE OF HURRICANE ISAAC The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission activated its Incident Response Center at the RIV office in Arlington, Texas to track Hurricane Isaac and monitor the activities of the nuclear plants in the storms projected path.

Hurricane Isaac is projected to make landfall near New Orleans early tomorrow morning.

Three plants owned by Entergy Nuclear are in or near the projected storm path. The Waterford plant is about 20 miles west of New Orleans, River Bend is about 25 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, La., and Grand Gulf is near Port Gibson, Miss.

At 3:00 p.m. CDT on August 28, Waterford began a controlled plant shutdown due to the possibility of adverse conditions generated by the storm. Both River Bend Station and Grand Gulf remain at full power. NRC entered monitoring mode at 6:08 p.m. CDT.

On Monday, NRC sent additional inspectors to support the resident inspectors at all three sites and they will remain at the plants for the coming days to monitor plant conditions until the storm is no longer a threat.
