Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC To Meet With Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council To Discuss 2017 Millstone Station Performance Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of Millstone nuclear power plant, Units 2 and 3, operated by Dominion Nuclear during a meeting of the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council on April 4 in Waterford, Conn.

The meeting will be held at the Waterford Public Library, 49 Rope Ferry Road, beginning at 6 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. NRC staff responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to answer questions from the public prior to the meetings adjournment.

Millstone Units 2 and 3 operated safely during 2017. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were green, or of very low safety significance. As a result, both units remain under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections are performed by three NRC resident inspectors and specialist inspectors from the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa.
